Weekly Update #38

IMG_0165-0.JPG

First full week back at my regular life since my vacation in Minneapolis, and it’s been a week! I caught up on cleaning most of the day today, and then played The Sims 3 until M and I went to game.

In fact, we’re at game right now, waiting for everyone to show up. One of my friends from work is going to join us today. She’s wanted to try tabletop gaming for a while now and since her significant…

Pinterest Project: Ren Fair

As some of you may know, I dabble a bit in photography.  Dabble might be a bit of an understatement.  While M and I were in Minneapolis, we had the opportunity to go to the Renaissance Fair.  Here are some of my favorite shots from the jousting tournament, edited in Camera Raw.

The announcer had a pretty sweet moustache.  I spend the whole tournament trying to get a good shot of his face,…

Oh, Nostalgia

Being in Minneapolis really brings me back to that time in my life.  When I was still in school, mostly unemployed, going to shows all the time and hanging out with friends when I wasn’t at a concert.

Even though I was struggling with depression, I remember my time in Minneapolis fondly.  In all honesty, if I hadn’t been living there when I was dealing with that particular episode, I don’t think…

In A Hundred Words

In the end, it didn’t matter. In the end, nothing ever matters. Lucy would have known this if she’d ever bothered to listen to the Linkin Park CD her first boyfriend got her back in ninth grade.

But she didn’t. Liam knew that. He turned the volume up louder to hear over the sobbing. All the time and money he’d spent on her, he deserved something other than one timid handjob and a half-hearted…

Weekly Update #37

This past week has been a whirlwind!  M and I left right after work on Saturday for Minneapolis, then came back to Iowa on Wednesday only to leave right away again the next Saturday morning for my cousin’s wedding in Wisconsin.  We just got back yesterday from everything only to work bright and early this morning.

I meant to post an update yesterday, but I ended up getting some new bookshelves as…

In A Hundred Words

In A Hundred Words

I walked to work today. I missed the bus. The next available bus doesn’t come until three hours after my shift starts.

And of course, it started raining. And of course, I left my umbrella at home. And of course, it’s three days until pay-day so I can’t even pick a cheap one up from the store.

I saw one of my coworkers drive past me. Well, she stopped at a light while I was waiting to cross the…

Pinterest Project: My First Cross Stitch

Pinterest Project: My First Cross Stitch

As I’m sure you’re all aware from previous posts, I’m a cross-stitcher (check my Pinterest board).  I’ve been stitching for about two years now.  And this is the kit that started it all.  I stitched a bit of it to get the basics down, but then I set it to the side and worked on the pattern I really wanted to make.

In the process of organizing my crafting supplies, I found the not even…

Time Off

So, I know I’ve had some time off recently, though not really planned.  But this weekend marks the start of an actual vacation!  One that I’ve planned and saved for!  One that I’m very excited for!

Saturday after work, M and I will be driving 6 hours up to Minneapolis, MN.  We’ll spend four days bumming around my old stomping grounds.  Sunday, we’re going to the Renaissance Festival with a couple…

In A Hundred Words

She stood at the balcony, taking a long drag of a cigarette. She breathed in the soothing menthol, wishing she could escape the bass pounding out of the closed glass doors behind her.

Her brother watched her from his bedroom window. He hated the fact that she was here. Turning away, he turned up the music.

Their mother stood in the kitchen, mindlessly chopping vegetables for a meal she didn’t…

Weekly Update #36

Okay, I think I’m more or less back on track with my posts. Thank you guys for bearing with me. The health issues in my family have fixed themselves more or less, it seems. And the internet issue has been more than fixed.

I started a new schedule this past week. Instead of working 11:30 PM to 8 PM, the second shift at APAC, I now work 8 AM to 4:30 PM. It means getting up at the ungodly hour of 6…

Pinterest Project: Button Friendship Bracelets

Pinterest Project: Button Friendship Bracelets

Today’s post is a bit of a throwback to middle school.  Friendship bracelets!  Although a bit more grown up this time around.  I love embroidery floss – stitching, knotting, braiding, tying, looking at, collecting… I do love me some embroidery floss.
Button Friendship Bracelets12My grandmother gifted me a whole jar of buttons she’s collected over the years.  I had lots of fun making these.  I found the patterns around…

"I Think I Need Some Space…"

“I Think I Need Some Space…”

M and I both live with our parents for the time being.  We’re both working and trying to pay down our massive student loans, as you do now-a-days when you graduate college.  Most of the time, M stays at my house because it’s closer to work.  M lives about 45 minutes away from where I live, and about an hour away from where we both currently work.  On days off, we typically spend time with M’s…
